Ogham Kerton Font

The Ogham Kerton font, as I call it, was created as a simple personal project to learn about the creation of fonts. I didn’t really design it with legibility and function at the fore front of my mind as it was just an experiment.

I created upper and lower case letters, numbers 1-9 and some special characters. Ogham is an ancient written language used in Ireland and Britain during the early medieval period.

It is a series of horizontal lines carved across a vertical line. Ogham was carved into standing stones and was often used to honour people. I liked the distinctly Irish and Celtic nature of the language and so I decided to use it in my personal logo and then expand upon it in 'Ogham Kerton'.

My personal logo is a stylised capital 'K' with four Ogham lines. The four lines are the closest Ogham equivalent to the modern 'E' that I could find. I took this as the basis of the font
